How does our EVOlution hovercraft perform on a mix of water and ice? As you see here, it really doesn’t care! Professional ice rescue is one of the primary uses for our hovercraft since it is the safest way to traverse that inherently dangerous environment.
When hovering, your weight is evenly distributed over a large area rather than concentrated into area the size of your boot. On ice that you would instantly fall through on foot, the hovercraft often passes without even making a crack. What happens if you come to a complete stop and set down, such as when performing a rescue? Even if the ice cracks and the hovercraft breaks through, our EVOlution will happily float like a cork on the water. More importantly, it has excellent lateral stability while floating. You can pull the victim out of the water and have them in an ambulance back on shore in minutes.
As told by one of our rescue customers who uses their hovercraft frequently, the first call they got was to rescue a dog that fell through the ice. The time they arrived on site to the time they had the dog on shore was 9 minutes. They had previously done a similar dog rescue without the hovercraft and it took 45 minutes.
